Edgewater Hotel & Waterpark
Duluth, Minnesota |
 |
Project
Description:Krech Ojard orchestrated this design-build addition and renovation project that more than doubled the size of the Edgewater Hotel in Duluth, Minnesota. The new five story, 9,000 sf per floor hotel addition creates 64 new guest rooms including five jacuzzi suites with gas fireplaces. Half of the new guest rooms overlook the new 18,000 sf Polynesian themed waterpark and half overlook beautiful Lake Superior.
The four story waterpark was provided with exposed laminated wood beam and plank roof structure including a raised roof area to accommodate the two waterpark slide towers. To save on interior space and to add excitement to the waterslides, portions of both four story slides run outside of the building. The existing
4000 sf swimming pool was renovated into additional waterpark space an additional 3,000 sf of the existing hotel was renovated into a kitchen/concession area with a gaming arcade. Three floors of the new hotel were provided with
800 sf meeting rooms with floor to ceiling glass curtain walls on two adjacent sides, providing magnificent views of Lake Superior. Two existing hotel buildings were removed to accommodate additional parking. Analysis and design for storm water management was crucial since impervious surface and water run-off limits were already at their maximum.
