William E. Amorde Airport Terminal
Superior, Wisconsin |
 |
Project
Description: In 2006, the City of Superior along with the Wisconsin FAA embarked on a plan to build a new airport terminal. The existing terminal was inside the existing hanger. KrechOjard was hired by the construction company, RS&H, to help the City of Superior bring their ideas to fruition. Construction started in 2009 and the facility was finished in early 2010.
The new terminal is located adjacent to the existing airport hanger. The structure for the building is steel with metal stud infill. On the north side of the building a utility brick veneer is used to tie the new building in with the existing building.
The remainder of the facility will be wrapped in zinc siding gives the facility a contemporary look. The zinc is also a
product that is 100% recyclable, and can be reformed into
its original state. The interiors of the building encompass
a Waiting Area, Offices, a Kitchenette, Pilot’s Area, a
Conference Room, Public Restrooms, and a Map Room.
The design includes plans for the future expansion of a
new hanger building.
This 5,888 sf building uses low maintenance materials such
as colored-dyed concrete flooring and stone countertops.
