Description:Krech Ojard & Associates,
P.A., partnered with Lakehead Constructors in a design-build
project of two concrete arch bridges to carry heavy-haul mining
trucks over a state highway and a rail line. The Burlington
Northern Sante Fe Mine Haul Road overpass is the largest precast
concrete tunnel in North America. It supports 20 feet of fill
and 500-ton mining trucks.
Special
Issues and Needs: Temporary
detours were provided during construction to keep
mine production on schedule and minimize inconvenience
to the public. The superstructure was erected in
5 days. The services of Krech Ojard & Associates,
P.A. were invaluable in keeping the project on schedule
and under budget.
