Project
Description: Krech Ojard was hired by the Erie Pennsylvania Port Authority to solve a problem of mudslides and water runoff into condominium units at the base of Fern Cliff Park on Lake Erie.
|
Special
Issues and Needs:
Through a combination of French Drains at the juncture of the lower clay level and the upper seventy feet of sandy loam, KO engineers and project contractors were able to drain excess water from this slippage joint.
Services
provided:
• Problem investigation and solution design
• Construction Management
Project Summary:
In addition to the drainage, recontouring of the slope took place. The slope was changed from 1:1 slope to 2:1 and up to a 3:1 slope, eliminating the fast runoff of rain or snowmelt. This eliminated water runoff and mudslides which were causing major problems to the condominiums. After the completion of the project, the area was removed of overgrown brush, trees and vines. With this rehabilitation, visitors to Fern Cliff Park have a beautiful vista overlooking Lake Erie.
