Kirby Student Center at the University of Minnesota Duluth

Project Description: This $8 million project, scheduled for completion in 2004, involves the renovation of Kirby Plaza and Student Center, a people-intensive activity center located in the heart of the campus. Phase I called for renovation of space to accommodate a book store, coffee shop, copy center, transit center, food services, auxiliary services offices and a child care center. Phase II addressed space for Information Technology Systems & Services, the American Indian Learning Resource Center, University for Seniors, UMD Library Archives, faculty and staff offices, and classrooms.

Renovated space:
Phase I - 69,000 gross square feet
Phase II - 52,935 gross square feet
Total SF of Phase I&II 121,935

   

Special Issues and Needs:
Utilize existing building space
in a manner
that best serves the campus population and University.

Services provided:
- Design and construction management.

Project Summary:
Phases I through IV are complete and the building is currently in use by UMD students / faculty.
Throughout each phase, portions of the building were in constant use by students and staff of the University.
