Denver Water Gross Dam QAQC Denver,CO

Project Description: Denver Water, the Authority responsible for water supply in the Denver and front range area, commissioned the installation of an upstream Intake Control Gate 300’ under water at the Gross Dam Reservoir. This particular 72” intake tunnel supplies 30% of the water for a population of 3 million people and is considered lifeline infrastructure. Denver Water retained Krech Ojard’s Marine Division to provide continuous on-site Quality Control on this deepwater construction.

Special Issues and Needs:
Denver Water’s decision to seek specialized expertise in reviewing underwater construction operations was made concurrently with the start of construction and required Krech Ojard Associates to mobilize an engineer/diver to the jobsite in Colorado on
very short notice.
Once on site, Krech Ojard met with Denver Water key staff and jointly developed a Quality Assurance and Observation Program tailored to the unique requirements
of this mission critical,
24hr/day operation.

Services provided:
*Continuous on-site observation of this 24hr/day underwater construction in the Colorado front range.
*Development of quality control procedures for critical construction phases.
*Published daily reports recording construction operations, progress, and alterations.
*Created a photo and video record of the installation.
*Administered Site Progress Meetings and created the associated documentation.
*Reviewed and provided recommendations on contractor submitted underwater construction procedures.

Project Summary:

This specialized $2.5 M project was completed on schedule and on budget in November

of 2003.
