Douglas MacArthur Bridge
Detroit,MI

Project Description: The engineer dive team was comprised of a three-man team utilizing two engineers as the
dive inspectors and one dive technician as a tender / standby diver. Utilized surface supply diving techniques for
inspections.

Underwater color video camera was mounted
to the engineer/ divers dive hat to document all
areas of inspection for future review. Pertinent
photos and drawings were utilized in the report
to show existing condition of the piers.

Open Spandrel Concrete Arch Bridge

2356-feet long with 19 piers Bridge has 19 piers

Four Lanes of traffic connects the City of Detroit with Belle Isle

Services provided:
• Performed comprehensive underwater inspection and
assessment of 19 piers
Conducted condition assessment and bridge rating using NBIS standards and Pontis rating system

Completed level I and II scour analysis
Completed hydrographic and side-scan surveys

Project Summary:
The project was completed on schedule and to budget in July of 2003.
