Project
Description:This major facility
expansion involved underwater inspection, assessment recommendations
and design for an 18,000,000 NT coal transload facility. Included
with the design were a steel H pile wharf with reinforced concrete
caps and decks, 649 steel H piles to withstand heavy ice loading
and vessel impact, and a rail-mounted 12,000 NT/hr shiploader.

Special
Issues and Needs:
The
project required underwater construction management
and QA/QC, corrosion and loss analysis, testing and
recommendations for a corrosion protection system,
and additional services to design and engineer this
major facility expansion.
Services
provided:
• Completed underwater inspection and assessment.
• Tested ultrasonic thickness gauge.
• Provided static and dynamic structural load analysis.
• Provided berthing analysis.
• Produced a comprehensive report.
• Designed cost-effective structural repairs for damaged and overload
piling.
• Prepared a hydrographic survey.
• Designed riprap placement to repair significant vessel scour.
