Cleveland Cliffs - Rail Study Schroeder, Minnesota

Project Description: Krech Ojard provided the transportation study for reactivating the Port of Taconite Harbor in Northeastern Minnesota, at the request of Cleveland Cliffs, Inc.

The study included the layout and preliminary design of twelve miles of new track, a new pellet load-out structure, rail and storage-yards, passing sidings, access roads, and pellet stockpiling facilities.

Construction and operating cost estimates were generated for economic analyses. Based on this study, a railroad operating plan will be developed that will address issues pertaining to train size, crewing needs, and maintenance requirements.
