    Job Description

    Professional Civil Engineer

    Under general direction of the Infrastructures Services Group Manager or other assigned responsible management, supervises and performs professional office and field engineering work, including major design projects or major construction projects.

    Essential Functions of the Job

    • Prepare and/or supervise technicians in the preparation of detailed plans and specifications related to civil engineering projects, such as roads, bridges, sewer and storm drainage, water supply, structures or related facilities.
    • Prepare proposals, cost estimates, and contract documents for engineering projects.
    • Perform or supervise engineering inspection of construction of civil engineering projects.
    • Perform or supervise testing of construction materials.
    • Prepare engineering reports on the progress and completion of engineering projects.
    • Supervise or conduct field surveys prior to project design.
    • Secure data, prepares reports, and make presentations for internal staff or external client/customer meetings on proposed projects.
    • Perform other related functions as assigned or apparent.
    • Perform work functions as a part of team environment.

    Required Knowledge and Abilities

    • Application of civil engineering principles and practices applied to project design and construction.
    • Application of the basic principles and practices of engineering field and office work, including drafting and surveying.
    • Application of principles, methods, equipment and materials used in construction of civil engineering projects.
    • Planning and direction of engineering technicians and other staff.
    • Development of concepts and completion of engineering computations, estimates and designs.
    • Preparation and interpretation of plans and specifications, and performance or supervision of engineering inspection during project construction.
    • Execution of precise survey measurements and interpretation of survey calculations.
    • Capability and willingness to travel:
      o Potential extended durations
      o Internationally
    • Effective and respectful communication and interaction with staff members, supervisors, individuals representing other organizations, and clients.
    • Exemplary driving record.

    Qualifications:

    • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and ability to pass FE within one year of employment start date. (Extensive experience in civil engineering or related field work may be substituted for required education).
    • Experience: Paraprofessional in civil engineering design and construction or other related engineering experience. Utilization of Civil3D for design purposes and experience with Revit, ArcGIS (or other GIS software), Microsoft Project and Microsoft Office software preferred, but not required.
