CONSUMERS ENERGY UPGRADES
Consumers Energy has made direct efforts to upgrade their Holland Michigan power plant’s fuel handling system and conveyor systems to today’s technology and Environmental levels. Krech Ojard teamed with a Twin Ports contractor in this $13 million design/build contract. This project involved facility and equipment upgrades required to increase coal conveying rates of Consumers Energy’s power plants back-up fueling path from 900tph to 2000tph PRB coal.
KO conducted a review current train unloading system, prepared detailed design package (engineering, materials handling, structural design), prepared equipment specification package, developed maintenance and spare parts manual, and provided construction management, construction inspection, QA/QC, Primavera scheduling services.
KO also reviewed train handling systems for the potential increase of three million tons of western coal. Included in the study was determination of train operation requirements for handling the increased tonnage through Chicago.
KO also worked with the plant operations to specify replacement locomotive which was needed with the increase of coal.
