ROTARY CAR DUMPER INSTALL

Krech Ojard partnered with Lakehead Constructors to provide the installation of a new tandem rotary car dumper using a unique rolling truss transfer system.

The truss was designed to support the erection, lateral transfer and positioning of the new 270,000 lb mechanical assembly. Retired ore cars were modified to support the truss and allowed for 3-dimensional rotation as the assembly moved up a hill and around a curve into the building. The design included a mobile jacking system to transfer the assembly from the staging area onto the primary tracks and a temporary trestle to bridge the open dump pit.

This unique rotary car dumper concept allowed the plant main tracks to remain in operation and minimized the impact on critical electrical/controls infrastructure and the primary dust collection system. The rotary car dumper project installation was completed in a very limited plant shutdown window.
