WESTON 4 GENERATING STATION UPGRADES
Krech Ojard & Associates was subcontracted by James Peterson Sons for engineering services on their part of the Weston 4 Generating Station power plant expansion, a plant owned in part by the Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) (70%) and also Dairyland Power (30%).
James Peterson Sons (JPS) was contracted to perform site development work, including demolition, site grading and drainage system construction, road and rail construction, and pond and liner construction. Included in demolition activities were road and rail removal, existing structure removal, and runoff/treatment pond decommissioning and removal. Grading/drainage work involved grading site for runoff control and stabilizing soil foundations. Access roads were built, as well as a railbed for a new loop track installation. Also included was the installation of two bridges over the new rail loop. Liner work included new coal pile liner, ditch, and associated runoff/settling ponds, and rework of existing ash settling ponds.
KO’s tasks at the Weston 4 Generating Station included engineering support and construction administration activities. Engineering support examples include fly ash stabilized soil mix design, bridge design, and verification of plan calculations. KO provided an engineer on site for construction administration activities. These involved daily quality control checks, all document submittals, and project scheduling. Verification of concrete pour records, liner installation reports, and soil compaction reports are examples of the daily quality control activities performed.
Document submittals were handled through a KO maintained FTP site with access provided to the owner and subcontractors. Project scheduling was updated and integrated into a project master schedule weekly using Primavera P3e/c. Also handled by KO were engineering change notices, field order authorizations and requests for information forms, all using Primavera Expedition.
