Senior Mechanical Engineer

This Mechanical Engineer position is available in our Minneapolis or Duluth, MN location.

Definition

Under general direction of the Engineering Manager or other assigned responsible manager, senior mechanical engineers are responsible for the development, oversight and execution of a wide range of engineering projects which includes major design and construction projects with clients primarily based in North America.

Essential Functions of the Senior Mechanical Engineer position:

In addition to providing direct oversight to engineers and engineering technicians, Senior Engineers oversee the development of detailed drawing packages and specifications to be utilized with a wide range of design development projects.  The following is an outline of typical job functions associated with a senior mechanical engineer.

  • Prepares proposals, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates for prospective engineering projects
  • Utilizes experience and understanding of engineering design principles to develop conceptual design plans and alternatives for evaluation and further design development
  • Develops issued for bid drawing packages as well detailed drawing packages from preliminary or concept design packages
  • Analyzes data, prepares reports, and delivers presentations about proposed and ongoing projects to internal staff and clients
  • Manage projects that require design input from multiple disciplines; Civil, Electrical, Structural
  • Provide mentoring and oversite to junior engineers
  • Complete QA/QC reviews throughout the design development process for assigned projects as well as projects under development by others
  • Work directly with clients to develop project options and alternatives
  • Meet with clients to provide engineering guidance for project planning and development, field investigations, and critical issues

Desired Capabilities and Training:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of project lifecycle and ability to manage complex mechanical engineering and multidiscipline projects from project design through construction
  • Knowledge and application of the principles and practices of CAD development and creation of drawing packages at various stages of design development
  • Detailed knowledge of principles, methods, equipment and materials used the construction phase of mechanical engineering projects
  • Experience planning and directing the work of engineers, designers, and technicians
  • Ability to develop engineering calculations related to loading, liquid & gas flow, throughput, equipment sizing, gate & valve sizing, chute sizing, dust collection, thermal expansion, etc.
  • Experience preparing drawing packages from concept through detailed design
  • Experience developing equipment specifications with a focus on material handling, pumping and conveying
  • Ability to work with clients and other engineering disciplines to develop layouts that optimize operational and capital project cost
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with Krech Ojard staff, individuals from other organizations, and clients
  • Experience with varied types of mechanical systems commonly found in the pulp/paper industry, mining, PRB coal storage/trans load facilities, bulk material handling systems/facilities or related industrial facilities

Qualifications:

  • Education:  BS in Mechanical Engineering. (with 5 years of experience as Licensed or Registered Professional Engineer).
  • Experience:  7 to 15 years in mechanical/industrial engineering design and construction or other related engineering field of work.
  • Pre-employment:  Successfully complete the pre-employment drug screening and possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
